Updates on Favourite badminton club's programs 2016-2017

A big THANK YOU to everyone who is participating in our Fall programs! It’s definitely good to know that a lot of people are serious about badminton and devoted at least one day a week for practice, and we can’t thank you enough for making it a huge success.

Favourite Badminton Club aims to carry on this success, and we are happy to inform each and every one of you regarding the number of spots remaining in the Winter and Spring programs.

I would like to inform you of some changes and

Updates on Favourite badminton club’s programs 2016-2017

For the Winter program,

while there are no more spots for Friday, there are still a few spots remaining for Tuesday. For the Spring program, we still have quite a few spots available.

We regret to inform you that after many years of working with Bradford Leisure Centre, we will not be running Monday nights programs, starting January 2017.

Regardless, it was a pleasure working the administration and staff of Bradford West Gwillimbury (BWG), and we thank you for all the support. It was a lot of fun coaching those wonderful kids and we were very lucky to have met them.

Engage your kids to badminton. It’s a wonderful sport. Even if they haven’t joined the club or participated in any tournament, these programs are for everyone. It’s mainly about letting them appreciate the sport, building a team player attitude, promoting a healthy lifestyle and simply having fun! Feel free to check our Testimonials and see what our participants say about our programs.

Please check out our online calendar. You will see that apart from Favourite’s Winter and Spring programs, we have lined up a lot of events throughout the year.

Kim Ng's Badminton Lifetime Achievement Award

Kim Ng for receiving the Coach Recognition Award – Badminton Lifetime Achievement Award

at the 2016 Badminton Ontario Annual Awards Celebration.

Badminton Lifetime Achievement Award

Kim is an old friend of mine, an amazing coach and teacher. We had so much fun playing at his club with his students. I also enjoyed his company at a number of badminton events. I had been a student myself at his coaching development clinics (NCCP), and it was a meaningful experience to have learned from a great mentor.

Thank you so much, Kim, for all your support – we truly appreciate it! Together, we will promote, motivate and inspire our badminton players to achieve higher levels.

Gravenhurst tournament 2016 – Favourite Results

Last weekend Favourite Badminton Club’s team participated in Gravenhurst tournament

I wanted to share with all of you the achievements of our team during this event, but, first of all, I would like to say special thank you to Gravenhurst Club’s organizers, who did an excellent job with running this tournament!

  • Jacob Schwarze, one of the newest members of our club, participated in the tournament for the first time and impressed his coach with his great performance.
  • 10 members of the team participated in Gravenhurst tournament, with four of them bringing home medals for exceptional performance!
  • Three members of the team, Naomi Rositsan (U13), Yaroslav Yelisyeyev (U13), and Stanislav Yelisyeyev (U15) played one age group up and showed everyone that hard work before any tournament brings great results at the end. Stanislav beat one of the opponents that he struggled against in the past and did this with the ease this weekend. Yaroslav got GOLD in B consolation of U15 age group (it is the first year of U13 age group for him), and Naomi came first – GOLD in A consolation U15 age group as well.
  • Elizabeth Maliukova got SILVER in A consolation U17 age group. To date, this is Elizabeth’s best performance in these types of tournaments.
  • and Sarah Ali got GOLD in B consolation in U17 age group.

Way to go Favourite! We are proud to be your coaches!

Favourite Badminton Club, Head Coach.

Whitby Tournament – December 3&4, 2016

Whitby Tournament is scheduled for December 3&4, 2016

This Junior badminton tournament is a NON-SANCTIONED badminton event. It is, however, advertised as Junior B, since this is how it was called in the past and because the participation rules are very similar as well. But! If you are after ranking, this is not the tournament where you will be getting any points. Participation in this tournament also does not require you to have a competitive membership (B). However, if you’d like to participate in it, the major requirement is that, if you do participate in Junior B tournaments, your total points should not exceed 3500 (the same requirement as if you were playing in sanctioned Junior B tournament).

For those, who hasn’t participated in this tournament before, but did participate in other, local tournaments, I would highly recommend it, since it is, in my opinion, a “stepping stone” for you towards future performance in sanctioned events. Organization of this tournament is exceptional and atmosphere in the gym is always pleasant.

A few notes:

  • This is a doubles and singles tournament.
  • You need the card to participate in it, but it will not be a competitive one (no payment required – you only need the number).
  • Age groups U13&U17 play on Saturday, December 3rd, and U15&U19 play on Sunday, December 4th.
  • Unlike Junior B tournaments, you will get to play more than two matches (if you are losing) in each event you sign up for.
  • Registration deadline: November 23rd.

GBDBA Jr Badminton Tournament: Midland – February 11, 2017

The third GBDBA badminton tournament of the season 2016-2017

Jr Badminton Tournament:

Midland, February 11, 2017

This is a MIXED DOUBLES tournament*

Please, bring the money to your coach by Friday, February 3, 2017  and register below.

For more information, please, contact GBDBA directly: contact@gbdba.ca*From the email from GBDBA tournament director about singles:There are no medals for singles in a shortened singles event, it’s for fun only.Singles play will start after the main event – no start time is given or planned. Shortened singles means, small pools, no guarantee of games played and depending on time they may play to 15 or 21. Singles is not he mandatory event so many kids will head out after the main event. As such, I don’t recommend anyone sign up for singles only. They will be very disappointed.

Sad news at Favourite

It has been six fun years at Favourite Badminton Club. We trained great athletes and met a lot of new friends. But just like all good things come to an end, it is time for Favourite’s coaches to say goodbye to all their wonderful students.

I am sad to announce that Favourite Badminton Club will no longer exist after the end of the season 2016-2017

Favourite Badminton Club Coaches

It was a pleasure for all of our coaches to be a part of Favourite’s team and we are all proud of the things that we’ve done over the years. Here are just a few of our achievements:

We were the first to:

  • Teach kids in the Aurora / Newmarket area the proper badminton techniques.
  • Train the athletes of Aurora, Newmarket, and Bradford, whose qualification was not only sufficient to compete in the Ontario Winter Games, but who actually made it to the team and represented Georgian Bay District Badminton Association (GBDBA) at the 2014 Ontario Winter Games.
  • Introduce structured badminton at Newmarket and Bradford Community Centres.

Our coaches:

  • Successfully completed National Coaching Certification Program: Julia Rositsan and Yuriy Brozdnychenko – Level 1, Masha Zakharenkova – Level 2.
  • Successfully completed Badminton Course Conductor Certification: Masha Zakharenkova – Level 1.
  • Yuriy Brozdnychenko: Successfully completed Line Judging certification and worked as a Line Judge during the PanAm Games 2015.
  • Masha Zakharenkova:
    • Coached the team of Georgian Bay District’s Badminton Association (GBDBA) at the Ontario Winter Games 2014.
    • Was recognized by the Town of Newmarket as a valued contributor to the development of the sport and represented the community as a Torchbearer at the PanAm Games 2015.
    • Contributed to the development of other local badminton teams and organizations:
      • St. Andrew’s College’s Badminton Team.
      • Pickering College’s Badminton Team.
    • Contributed to the development of non-local badminton organizations and teams:
      • Badminton Ontario.
      • Federation of Badminton Clubs.

Our students:

  • Participated in local, District-level, and provincial-level tournaments.
  • For a number of years came first and represented most of the Aurora and Newmarket schools’ badminton teams.
  • Became friends on a court and carried these relationships outside of badminton gym.

What we are most proud of:

All the friends that we got and the times that we spent with them during all these years

We hope to continue meeting you in the future at badminton tournaments, at parks and campgrounds in a summer time, while skating and skiing in the winter, and everywhere else where we used to have fun in the past. We loved every day that we spent with our students and badminton friends and will remember them forever.

And now… Back to the GOOD NEWS!.:)

Year-end / Season-end / Favourite-end Pizza Party!

Come and celebrate with us! If you are a former Favourite student, please, join us for a year-end celebration on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Denne Public School 7-9pm. As always, we will have pizza, cake, and badminton.

And finally…

I would like to mention that Favourite Badminton Club’s coaches still continue helping local and other communities with training and developing of badminton. If you need help with preparation of your team for the upcoming tournament, private badminton lessons, training coaches for schools, etc., we are open to these opportunities.;)
